Most people consider Barcelona to be the most beautiful city in Spain. This is largely because much of the architecture that Spain is famous for is located in the city, in large because of the history of Barcelona. As a city that has been influenced by a wide variety of cultures it has a rather unique character. This helps to make Barcelona the most popular place for people visiting Spain.
Madrid is the largest city in Spain and the countries capital. While most people agree that it is not as beautiful as Barcelona it does have its appeal. Madrid is by far the most vibrant city in the country and one of the few places in Spain where you things seem to happen at a fast pace. This does turn a lot of people off but it also appeals to a lot of other people. Madrid is also the most diverse city in Spain which has also had a major impact on its character.
When people think of Spain Seville is probably what they are thinking of. All countries have stereotypes and usually when you visit you find that they really aren't true. This is the case with Spain. The truth is in most places you are not going to find bullfights and flamenco dancers but you will in Seville. As a Moorish stronghold Seville has some of the finest architecture from that period that still exists in the country.
Granada is another of the cities that have a strong Moorish heritage and have preserved much of the architecture. The history of Granada is very obvious because of the recent wave of immigrants from North Africa who have moved into the area. In a lot of ways it feels like a completely different country.
San Sebastian is another great place in Spain to visit. Most people who go to the city go because of the outstanding beaches that are located nearby. However the city itself has much to offer so you should definitely take the time to explore more than just the beaches.
Valencia is the third largest city in the country but it is surprisingly compact. This makes it a great place to walk around and see the sites. Like much of Spain it has the varied architecture of the many different cultures that have lived the area. Valencia is a popular tourist destination in large part because of the beach resorts that are located around the city but it is well worth the time to visit the city itself.
