Starting a bed&breakfast facility in Spain
One of the most common ways for Americans who have moved to Spain to earn a living is to run a bed and breakfast. They do this in large part because they are buying a home anyway, probably in an area that is popular with tourists, so they view it as a good way to make some money.
A lot of people who move to Spain decide to start a bed and breakfast and this can be an excellent way to earn a living while you are there. One of the reasons that people do this is that it is so hard to get a work permit. The best option in a lot of cases is to simply start your own business instead. A bed and breakfast can be a great business because of the fact that there are so many tourists in Spain. It is also a good option since you are going to need to have a place to live anyway.
If you are planning to start a business in Spain you are going to have to jump through a lot of hopes. There is still quite a bit of bureaucracy in the country and getting all of the permits that will be required can be a challenge. As a result a lot of people run businesses without having the proper permits. This is not really recommended because of the potential penalties if you are caught. That being said the enforcement of these rules is pretty lax, which is why so many people run businesses without permits.
One of the reasons that Spain is such a popular destination for people who want to start a bed and breakfast is that you can buy a house for a fairly low price. That being said Spanish real estate has been going up in value the last few years. You do however have to be very careful if you are going to buy a house in Spain, there are plenty of stories about people who bought a house and had it turn into a nightmare. The real estate market works differently than you are probably used to so you are going to have to make sure that you get the assistance of somebody who is very familiar with Spanish real estate.
One other thing to keep in mind is that running a bed and breakfast is a lot of work. People tend to view it as an easy job that they can do part time while enjoying life in Spain. This is really not the case, if you are going to have a bed and breakfast you are going to have to treat it like a business that means that you are going to have to put in some pretty long hours to make sure that everything that needs to be taken care of is.
